On January 19, Erica Cecchini and Soheil Firooz hosted the first Doctoral Researchers’ Seminar in 2024 at the Institute of Applied Mechanics. The seminar started with a talk by Erica, who gave an introduction into MOGHE and presented her latest results concerning the investigation of demyelination in brain white matter in MOGHE patients. The talk was followed by a lively discussion with questions and input from doctoral researchers of different EBM research foci. After a short break, Soheil Firooz introduced us to his work on computational modeling of cell aggregation phenomena and the associated difficulties that arise from the complexity of the model equations that must be discretized. Soheil’s presentation motivated a fruitful discussion on computational modeling, the link to the simulated experiments, and future questions that can be addressed with his modeling approach.
